Founded in 1980, the Aldermaston Tool Company began life as the Surplus Sales Company under the leadership of Charles Hastie. We sold reconditioned power tools in village halls, fetes, canteens and social clubs. With considerable energy and experience, Kevin Steele joined Charles and helped transform the company into one of the UK’s leading suppliers of power tools.
Storage facilities soon became an issue as the company expanded into the sale of top quality professional power tools and accessories. From a small warehouse in Burghfield, Surplus Sales as we were still called moved to a 2000 square foot warehouse in Theale. With company growth outstripping storage space, it was just two years later in 1987 that we moved to our current premises at Young’s Industrial Estate in Aldermaston.
The 21st century question was, does ‘Surplus Sales’ really represent what we do? Not really. Alongside the decision to change our name to the Aldermaston Tool Company, we threw open our doors to the public. The addition of a workshop under the guidance of Ian James provided a fast and efficient repairs and maintenance service and we opened a small showroom.
We’ve come a long way in the last 35 years and achieved a lot. Not only were we nominated for “Workshop of the Year 2009” by DeWalt but we have also been awarded the status of a 5 star warranty agency. Our loyal, knowledgeable and experienced workforce has earned an enviable reputation for providing a top quality service that is professional, friendly and happy to go the extra mile for you.
